Staircase of new country house in Staffordshire

New Country House, Staffordshire

This fine new house stands on the edge of a steep-sided picturesque valley on the former site of a Georgian mansion, demolished in the 1930's. Responding to the beautiful views to the south, the house has a belvedere-like quality with its domed semicircular bow, encircling colonnade and elevated perron.

It was the first house to be completed having gained planning consent under the provision of the now defunct PPG7, the so-called "Gummer's Law".

The interior is axially planned with the top lit staircase hall at its centre. The staircase is cantilevered and made of Tadcaster limestone.
