Town Houses
Town House, York
The clients for this project were two families intending to build new houses close to the centre of York. The land was formerly occupied by a detached 1920s house in a street consisting otherwise of early Victorian houses. Planning consent had been granted to Westwood Homes (Yorkshire) Ltd for a pair of four-storey semi-detached villas. The houses had to be set back from the street by the requirement to retain a large monkey puzzle tree, which was the subject of a tree preservation order. Francis Johnson & Partners were called in to refine the external design to achieve convincing mid-nineteenth century detailing.
